Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Era 4, Daala and Knight Hammer
« on: February 09, 2020, 07:43:10 AM »
How do you get Daala on the Knight Hammer in Era 4?  I got Byss, built a Dreadnought shipyard, built the Knight Hammer, and it's just hanging out.  Daala's still over in the Maw with the Gorgon.

Do you have to build the Knight Hammer at Daala's location?  Move her to it after it's built?  Does she not actually get to command it anymore?

Ascendancy Discussion / Fighting against New Republic impossible?
« on: December 04, 2016, 12:18:36 PM »
Okay, I've played a few games, at seems like fighting the New Republic is almost impossible.  They field such HUGE fleets, dish out MASSIVE damage, and are tough to destroy.  Seems like the best I can do is drive away their fleet temporarily, with significant losses, only to have them come back with just as much firepower as before while I'm still rebuilding.  Most recently, playing Empire of the Hand, I had a two-to-one planet advantage (still developing them, though) and the NR was still sending absolutely insane fleets against me.  Watching my just-built offensive fleet (once I built up some more ships for it) evaporate guarding a planet convinced me I was in an untenable situation.  And I set the difficulty at Beginner to boot.

What am I doing wrong?

Ascendancy Discussion / Executors fragile?
« on: December 02, 2016, 11:53:34 AM »
Now, I've only played a little bit of the game and mod, but to Executor Super Star Destroyers seem rather fragile to anyone else?  Mine keep getting blown up with relative ease by enemy fleets (even with lots of other ships to support them), and it just seems like they should be able to take a bit more punishment than that.  Or am I being stupid and playing the game wrong somehow?

Ascendancy Discussion / Dreadnought thought
« on: December 02, 2016, 10:22:42 AM »
So, just recently picked up Sins of a Solar Empire:  Rebellion, and tried out the Ascendancy mod.

Excellent work.  Been a HUGE fan of Thrawn's Revenge for Empire At War, and Ascendancy is just as good.

Anyway, only been playing briefly, but I've had a thought about the Dreadnought.

Strike Cruisers have the "Denting Strike" research, which makes them much more valuable as a component of a fleet (and boy oh boy, do  you need to build big fleets in this!)  In the Thrawn Trilogy, much was made of Dreadnoughts using their ion cannons.  In Dark Force Rising, when Bel Iblis is helping Han and Lando escape New Cov, the Dreadnoughts bombard an ISD with ion cannon fire, keeping it off-balance long enough for them to escape.  Later, Garm uses them to try and capture some of Thrawn's cloaked asteroids, but to no avail.

Anyway, what about a research like "Denting Strike," except debuffing attack instead of damage, representing Dreadnought ion cannon fire knocking offensive systems offline temporarily?

Imperial Civil War Community Mods / Editing unit info
« on: August 08, 2015, 10:01:58 AM »
So, got a bit into editing some XMLs for taste, and was now wondering about changing the text box for units, where it displays their name and some information.  Which file do I need to edit, and do I need any special tools?

Imperial Civil War Tech Support / Missing save files
« on: August 07, 2015, 11:37:40 AM »
So, having a VERY bizarre issue.  My save games are not showing up.

I have three older saves that I overwrite (one for NR, one for Remnant, one for Pentastar, though I doubt I'll play them again), and started another game to run the Empire of the Hand again.  But for some reason, there were no autosaves.  Then I manually saved a game, and its gone, too.  Funny thing is, looking in my save game file folder, the saves are there, but the game just isn't reading them for some reason.  Ran the Defreezer to see if that helped, but it didn't.  What's up?

So, I decided to play the Reunification GC recently.  Much as I'm not a fan of Jedi Academy, I was interested in the character of Admiral Daala, and decided to give it a shot.

Well. . . it's difficult.  Starting with only two pretty bad planets (one of which you can't build any ground structures on) means money and population are very tight at the start.  You're next to some pretty heavily fortified planets, too.  I managed to take Bimmisaari, but Yavin completely kicked my ass.  Mon Calamari would likely be an easier ground fight (without tons of Jedi running around), but the space battle would need way more fleet than I can probably build.

Anyone played this and have a good strategy for getting a solid opening position?  Or is it just that Daala in-game, as in the books, is rather a colossal screw-up doomed to failure?

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Simply awesome!
« on: December 04, 2014, 08:22:36 PM »
This is an amazing mod for an amazing game, thank you!  I can't even begin to imagine all the hard work that went into this.

I've only played the Thrawn campaign so far (not a fan of most of the rest of the early EU), and it's amazingly well done.  I do have one or two comments, though.

First, the Thrawn Campaign map.  It's really interesting, but there's a couple of chokepoints that don't really make sense.  First, Jomark being the only route in and out of Mon Calamari.  If you're the Empire, it forces you to put a HUGE garrison force to hold the planet, and if you're the NR, it makes that one of your top priority planets to take, since you can't get your best heroes into play while it's isolated.  (Also, not sure how much sense it makes for Mon Mothma to be on Mon Cal instead of Coruscant.)  Jomark is also the only route to Honoghr, which means the NR taking it cuts off the Empire's supply of Noghri (by the way, amazing how difficult it is to take Honoghr!  Do NOT mess with the Noghri!)  I don't know how much editing the map will take, but maybe adding a few more hyperspace routes between those locations would help.  My other issue with Pantolomin/Pakrik Minor.  Getting to those locations so you can get the Katana Fleet as the Empire means either taking Coruscant early, or completely surrounding it, which makes it relatively easy to take later.  Again, a few routes bypassing Coruscant between those worlds would help.

Speaking of the Katana fleet, I noticed in my Imperial playthrough that Katana dreadnoughts were buildable on Duro before I'd acquired the fleet.  I hadn't seen them buildable anywhere in my NR game (but I admit, I didn't look thoroughly.)  I was thinking that the ability to build a heavy frigate shipyard in Deep Space would mean that Katana dreadnoughts would be buildable there.  I think that would make sense.

Also, I noticed that Mara Jade uses Han and Chewie's voice in space.  Doesn't she have her own voice files for space that can be used?

Other than these minor complaints, this mod is amazing!  You guys did a bang-up job, and I seriously look forward to seeing what else you may or may not do with it.  Very well done!
