Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Re: Why is there 2 Thrawn's?

Cloning was a prominent scientific issue a few decades ago. I guess that's why it appeared in novels and movies from that era.

Great explanation. Can't wait to try it myself.

I imagine that this could be relevant in smaller fleets sometimes.

Do captured ships count as population on the galactic map?

If so, is it possible to exceed the pop cap by capturing ships?

It seems too much ... "Impersonal"
Agreed. Always reminds me of the scene in Empire. Still, it would be a rather useful weapon.

The empire just kind of collapsed on itself

Seems mostly reasonable. Not unlike what has happened in our galaxy countless times.

I think SSD got nerfed for 2.2 so that will be easy to lose Isard.

That would be very helpful.

I had the exact same thoughts while I was watching the film.

Someone needs to reverse-engineer EaW so that we can write an entirely new code lol.

Probably better to just tweak ground combat to make it as enjoyable as possible.

The Lounge / Re: Could Japan have won the pacific war?

It is easy to forget the importance of events in Europe. However, the USSR did fight Japan in Manchuria during the last weeks of the war. Any speculation is incomplete without considering the impact of the Soviets turning their attention eastward.

It's mentioned in another thread that Anti-Orbital Guns (HVs and the like) could prevent bomardment via a large, invisible shield.

The main way to fight against AOGs is the same way as most artillery - through not letting them fire. Commando raids in this case. The Clone Wars mod did a fairly good example of this IIRC. Giving each side commando units that have stealth and explosives could work well for that. It's certainly very star-wars-y.

That actually sounds like it would be an excellent solution as it is both perfectly logical and not impossible to implement.

Discussion, Suggestions & Feedback / Re: Another idea for sort of skirmish
« on: February 11, 2018, 10:51:16 PM »
Skirmish options are nice. Sometimes, it's fun to just go into battle without dealing with economy and construction.

Do any of you actually enjoy using these superweapons? I always thought that the Death Stars were a bit silly for gameplay. It was always "auto-win" whenever I built one.

Does the game engine even allow more factions to be added?

I struggle to imagine how the Vong could be integrated into EaW while remaining unique. Even heavy use of special abilities probably wouldn't be sufficient.

I personally never understood much of the criticism of the prequel trilogy. Granted, I did not see any of the movies until several years had passed since the release.

Perhaps that is indeed the key; some time and context is necessary for them to become tolerable.

I'm also not sure about the timers. Might feel a bit strange sometimes, especially if you end up counting weeks to be keep track.

This would be very interesting. However, it might require a lot of work. Significant balance changes would probably be required.

Perhaps a compromise with only some key worlds having land (with very polished maps) would be better. In the lore, we often hear about battles with no land component.
