What better way to start a new year than to prepare for an Imperial invasion?
When you need to defend your planets, often it is unfeasible to maintain a strong fleet presence at all possible targets. In these times, the New Republic and Imperial Remnant turn to the Golans for local defense.
The smallest of these, at 1231 meters is the Golan I. This platform is sufficient to handle most small corvette and frigate raids, however anything larger is capable of overpowering them.

The second, almost twice as large at 2158 meters, is the Golan II. Although its damage output increase is not directly proportional to its size increase over the Golan I, its hull integrity is far superior and as a result is able to win against most enemy cruisers in a one on one situation.

The final iteration, at 2600 meters, is the Golan III Space Defense Novagaun. This platform is extremely powerful and durable, and capable of holding off even many capital ship types. These have historically been found only at the most important of planets, such as Coruscant, Bastion and Muunilinst.

Used in concert with a well-organized fleet, Golans can create a defensive position around a planet which is extremely difficult to penetrate.

My God...it's beautiful...except for the Rebel Scum in it.
-
So are these buildable like turrets or are we going to have 3 iterations of Starbase constructors?
-
They function more like turrets.
-
So is there any role for a heavy constructor? I wouldn't mind doing away with it entirely since it's just a complicated way of making starbases.
-
There's really nothing we're adding (or really in existance in SW) analogous to Starbases in Sins. We're not going to go out of our way to keep a mechanic in if it doesn't make sense.
-
Beautiful screenshots, nice to see systems like Coruscant being surrounded by orbital defenses...

Considered using the Remnant, but the NR just has so much more variety right now.
-
This is just amazing. You really are the best.

There are so many...how many can you build over a planet?
-
Depends on how many defensive slots they take perhaps.
Golan I: 2 slots?
Golan II: 4 slots ?
Golan III: 6 slots?
anywhere near?
-
How many slots are usually available at a max planet?
-
it varies from 15 to 35 if i remember correctly. But I don't down if the team intends to change that.
-
It really depends on how the balancing works out. Right now it's 1, 2 and 3 slots respectively but I can easily see us at least doubling that.
-
Ah I see.
-
We want them to have an impact and be able to defend against raids and stuff on their own, but if you have to amass the vast majority of your fleet just to handle the defenses then there's a problem.
-
i was just reading about the golan stations and was wondering if you are going to make them double as hangars, because the golans had a hangar capacity of at least 12 fighters if i remember it right.
