I am a big fan of Allegiances backed by IPVs (like four each). I also love their gladiator garrison, so i can suicide them to spam skiprays.

In the demo their crimson Victory and arc170s plus the providence seem to do well in combat. The arcs seem to be very versatile just like the xwing (I know there made by the same company) and the victory compares to a small ISD1. The providence I like just cause it seems to be able to handle the VSD1 quite well and the nebulon Bs frigates.

agreed a few gladiators manageable, a lot of them, it can get out of hand if you don't know what your doing

I guess it also depends if they're attacking or defending.  If you're defending you can just arrange your ships in a tight cluster and let them run into you because they don't have too much firepower.

If you have to attack, it can get a bit messy if your ships end up facing the wrong way

Fighting them in the demo wasn't too bad - for me they just spammed gladiators and providences, both of which are easy to take out with capital ships + anti fighter fighter frigates.

They also had a habit of sort of retreating damaged gladiators, so at the end of the fight it was just half hp gladiators everywhere.

Does the AI survive that well? Considering the habit EAW AI has of going 'I took the space over this planet, so I am going to hold it, even if my homeworlds are in danger!'

The AI were pretty challenging for me

Odd, typically I countered their fighters with Gladiators and Arquitens (not sure I spelled that right) which seemed to do well. In Era 2 I think you get access to the Patrol Craft (the small pirate one) and the things in groups of four absolutely shred incoming fighters.

Personally I use the Crusader Corvette buildable with the Asteroid Base (Thanks Leonia Tavira !). That's a powerful anti-fighter ship I think. And if I can't assemble them, Secutors are definitively the best fighter-carriers ever. :D

Their strength is more or less offset by really tough starting position though. There are so many avenues from which you can get attacked at start.

I've heard of this as well

But the Greater Malrood have great bombers/fighters ( arc-170 ) even if they dont have many fighters

The Crimson VSD's though they they are amazing in terms of firepower, I do have to agree in the fighter department

NR late game fighter spam is lethal
Just use the IPV patrol crafts and use their ability when E-Wings are in the battle.
