That's pretty neat.  I ordered the essential guide a month ago, and it is supposed to arrive this week, but is still not here.

The Mediator does have enough info to build it if the team wanted it.  We know it is over 8,500 meters in length and serves as midway point between earlier designs like the Home One and later Mega designs like the Viscount.  So its fighter count would be between 120 and 216, about 150 escorts.  Its Weapon count would be about half of the Viscount, so about 1,000 heavy turbolasers, 1,000 turbolasers, 100 missile tubes, 150 ion cannons and 250 point defense lasers.
That's not necessarily true.  Essential Guide to Warfare describes the Mediator as "fast and powerful successors to the MC80" vs the "massive" Viscount, implying (at least to my mind) a ship more similar to the former than the latter.  Mediator is also classed as a Battlecruiser which under the Anaxes system is normally applied to ships in the 2km-5km range.

In terms of direct comparisons the Mediator's size is only really defined against Viscount (said to be almost twice the size) and a Miid ro'ik (larger than) at the Battle for Ord Mantell.  EGW states that Viscount was a ~3km prototype to the later 17km class and the Miid ro'ik is recorded at about 1.6km long.  Taken together that would make the Mediator possibly in the region of 1.8km which although slightly small for a Battlecruiser is plausible in context of a heavy armament and the Mon Cal build standard.

In 2.1, I've always considered the ships of the New Class Modernisation Program inferior (maybe with the exception of the Nebula-class) to the Mon Cal designs (even without counting the awesome Home One), but that's particulary true for the Endurance-class. It costs 7500 creds, use a pop cap of 7 (!) and had a weak armement. Ok, it have 4/11 squadrons but still... I hope its pop cap will be scaled down with the new system of the 2.2.

NR was always a carrier-focused faction. The fighters carried by the MC90, Endurance and even Nebula are very, very effective against Praetors, Allegiance and Phalanxes, as well as all SSD models. All NR fighters except for A-wings and Defenders carry proton torpedoes, which do increased damage against anything larger than an ISD.

Basically, NR fleets will stand off outside of turbolaser range, establish starfighter superiority, and then bomb down large capital ships.

IR style fleets will use their tie fighters to hold off bombers for a short time and rush the NR or Hand capital ships - Allegiance or Praetors will beat NR capital ships laser to laser if you can get to them quickly enough.

Maldrood and PA are hybrid factions - they both get heavy carriers and effective starfighters, however their fighters are not quite as good as the NR models squadron per squadron and are more vulnerable to corvettes in general due to the TIE models tending to lack shielding. They can screen bombers, but usually need capital ships to deal laser damage unless you load up on skiprays or use Providences for ARC-170s (which are being nerfed AFAIK).

If NR had a battlecruiser it would have to be a dedicated carrier - a true direct combat ship would make the faction overpowered due to the strength of their starfighters. There has to be trade-offs somewhere.

would Bulwark MK III count? or is it too small? also, the YVaW style MC85 would work as well. slower but more powerful than the Home One

MC80B, MC90, Nebula, Majestic. Yes, they don't have many ships above a certain size, but that's because of how they operated in canon- their ships are disproportionately powerful for their size, and they're typically supported by the best fighters in the game. If the Remnant throws out a lot of Praetors, that's a ton of credits and pop cap. If you're a fan of large battleships instead of a few high-quality ships-of-the-line with fighter and bomber support, then the New Republic may just not be the faction for you. We don't want the whole mod to be about who can have the biggest ship- that would be both not fun and not a good reflection of the universe/factions.

If you can find an example in canon that you feel we should be considering, then by all means let us know.  As far as I'm aware though the NR had nothing larger than the Nebula/Republic class aside from Viscount and Mediator (the latter of which has no design or stats so is pretty much out).

The new republic only has carriers and that's its biggest setback I mean they have the nebula star destroyer but that doesn't stand up to the ships like the praetor II , allegiance or the phalanx. The new republics only has nebulas or the viscount to stand up to them even then it would take 2 nebulas to take on one of them.  What I'm trying to say the new republic needs a heavy hitter that isn't a super ship
