I used one Allegiance, and ISDII, and an Arquittens. The Arq drew his fire for long enough to allow me to call the other two in behind him. Forced him into an asteroid field after I took his engines out. Never stood a chance.

Ally with Rogriss, win Dathomir in a sabacc game, kidnap Leia, have Hapans follow you and then during the ensuing battle sneak close to Iron Fist with false transceiver signal and say "Look up at your viewport you vermin. Kiss my wookie!"

Simple

The ground to space ion cannon always has affected weapons (and ship movement), even in vanilla.
Oh I misunderstood. He didn't say planetary ion cannons.

Wait, Ion Cannons can impact target's weapon fire rate now? They're finally more than just shield strippers?

If you are playing as the NR, Ion cannons are your best friend in that. strip the SSD of it's shields and disable their gun's recharge, so after a barrage or so it will be dead weight for some time. during that time a concentrated fleet and bomber/fighter bomber focus and it goes down quite easily.
That's what Ion Cannons are for.
For Maldrood, the ones before me are correct.

Given how significantly SSD has been nerfed in 2.2 you can pretty much just have your fleet focus fire on it regardless of the composition. Bombers are now really OP in taking down its shields.

On normal difficulty I used 1 Providence, 2 Gladiators, their fighter compliments and 1 HVG to nearly kill Zsinj. After he turned to face my cruisers I jumped in a massive fleet including 4-5 ISD IIs right behind him. Alone, he never stood a chance.

Bombers or E-Wings are the easy way.

CC's micro'd like crazy to stay behind him work.

A few Allegiances work although you'll lose at least a couple.
