Snap! -err.. or not.

I looked briefly at Dell before getting my new laptop (also a couple of weeks ago), but couldn't find anything I particularly liked - even though my previous/then current laptop was a Dell.

So instead I went with Schenker/XMG (German manufacturer) and got a machine with this spec:

Model: XMG A504

Intel Core i7-4710MQ @ 2.5GHz
8GB DDR3 RAM
128GB mSATA SSD + 750GB 7200rpm HDD
15.6" Full-HD Screen
2GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M DDR5
Windows 8.1 64bit

So far the only things I'm unsure on are Win8 (will seriously consider the free WIn10 upgrade when that comes out) and I need to find out how to make the touchpad recognise click-both buttons as equivalent to mouse-middle-scroll-click (I guess that's probably Symantec driver related?)

1.  Install classic shell, then Enjoy Windows 8.
2.  Yes, go into the symantec client, should be something in there to configure that.

$1350 all said and done.  I paid a bit more than it's truly worth in order to get the new 5th generation processor that was just released last month.  The same laptop with a 4th gen would have been under $1000 (not by much though).

I'm still trying to figure out how to get 3d acceleration working in Wine on linux to be able to install Windows Steam and play.  Getting Windows Steam is no problem, I have that on my main machine (desktop), but the 3d acceleration thing...that I need to look up how to do.

How much did it cost you man? I've been curious about constructing a new laptop (or buying one) for a while, just not too sure what the price would be / what to work with.

I vaguely recall spending weeks trying to convince you that it was worth it for Sins/Ascendancy.

Well, I didn't build this one obvioiusly, I bought it.  But took a while to figure out what was preventing GRUB from installing in efi mode and wanting to install in bios mode when the laptop was running uefi, so very happy that I finally figured out what it was so I can use it (Windows is ONLY used by me when I want to play games, otherwise I am always in linux).

So got my new laptop in last week, and finally figured out what my issue was with getting it finished configuring today, so it's finally done.

Dell Latitude E5450

Intel Core-i5 5300u
16 GB DDR3
500 GB 7200 rpm
1080p 14"
Intel 802.11AC wireless
Intel gigabit NIC

Running Debian Jessie (8.0) AMD64 dual booting with Windows 8.1 pro-64 (with classic shell to make it usable)

Windows still missing some drivers and software, but linux is fully up and running, and that's the important thing.
