Do your best to take advantage of the early game, before the AI starts having full garrisons and ion cannons on every planet.  The AI doesn't seem too aggressive until a few weeks in, so you should have a bit of breathing room for an immediate push using your starting units.  Since your territory's so small, I recommend only building construction buildings on planets with 50 or less base income - anything higher gets mines until you hit the build limit.  Also, take the starting VO's advice, and don't fight battles you'll lose - you can't afford to replace lost Star Destroyers for a while.

Novatroopers are shock troopers, great for storming heavy anti vehicle defenses or inserting deep behind enemy lines supported by Plex soldiers. On some maps with a great deal of narrow spaces and verticality, such as commenor, where trying to move AT-ATs across the map can be suicidal, I will insert them into reinforcement points using IDTs to take positions and allow my heavier stuff to land and destroy enemy base buildings. IDTs are also good at supporting units on the ground in situations like this. They're decent against air units and can do well against enemy infantry and light vehicles.

As for space, I am a Tector fanboy, they may not carry any fighters, but they have massive firepower and durability, and are fantastic at absorbing fire and tearing apart enemy ships in combination with Lancers and other frigates. Tectors go out front, weakening larger ships and usually crippling small frigates very quickly. Lancers can go close behind, with Victory IIs and other small frigates can support them against large ships.

Does anyone have any advice for which units to use when playing as the Remnant in the fifth era? I'm not big on the IR, but I'm giving them a go in Final Imperial Push. I'd like to know how best to compose defence fleets and attack fleets. Also, for ground, are Novatroopers and IDTs any good?
