I was having the same issue, what worked for me was changing the game in task manager to prioritize the game to run one on thread of my processor as it is not designed for modern quad core processors. Follow these steps, open empire at war FoC, open task manager, go to the details tab, select "StarWarsG.exe, right click and select "set affinity", select the core you'd like to run it on (i'd recommend core 3), close the game and reopen it, your problem should be fixed  ;D.

By "close the game and re-open it", do you mean just to quit the game from the galactic map or combat mode and then re-load the game, or do you mean to exit to desktop completely?  It appears to forget  the affinity setting when quitting to the desktop.

Unfortunately Empire at War is now 12 years old and the game engine can only make use of a single processor core.  Because the mod is vastly larger in scope than vanilla ever was - in terms of planets, units and active factions/AI - performance can take a hit in some circumstances.  If you're looking at the larger GCs in ICW those have 3 or 4 times the number of planets and active factions than the vanilla GCs which means the game has to process an awful lot more calculations every cycle.

Not really anything you can do but play on a smaller galactic map with less factions. I get some insane lag spikes myself, but I just deal with them.

Hi, so i have a 1080, 16 GB of RAM, and a i-5 8600k @3.6 ghz which runs games just fine. However with this mod, I sometimes get lag in bigger battles but the main issue is that the galactic campaign map gets very very laggy. Any suggestions on how to fix the lag?
