I'm having the same exact problem, crashes and everything. I'm using the steam version and it happens with every faction and every GC map. The GC itself loads perfectly fine but all battles load extremely slow.

When loading gound and space battles it takes a long period of time to load and most notably is that ground loadings freeze the entire game then goes into the load screen. Also it takes forever to save, load, or quit a game, is anyone else having this problem or do you know how to fix it.
